Thank goodness there is progress somewhere. I live in the U.S. and have MCS, reactive airway disease and allergies. Most docs still treat me as if I am crazy, with the exception of my allergy doc and one other. I hope that this progress will continue and the U.S. will be pressured to take MCS and other environmentally connected illnesses more seriously.

Thankyou Silvia for the great article and news. and thanks Christi for the translation that allowed me to read such good news. This example of environmental rooms is going to be used by us in Australia to press our government to include environmental rooms in the just announced multibillion dollar New Hosptial in one of our capital cities. wish us luck :-)

Dear Marsha,
You can find useful information at the following address:
http://emrojapan.com/emnews/content/339.html
This is related to the following which is mentioned above-
«The room environment is cleaned with fragrance free detergents, but a disinfecting cleaning is essential to neutralize odors, so the patient is offered the use of effective microorganisms (EM 1)».

Can someone please send me a complete list of the cleaning and disinfecting chemicals that the hospital uses for the EI rooms. I want to work for them to be used in hospitals and clinics in the San Francisco Bay Area and Silicon Valley. I am severely chemically sensitive, and suffer from the pervasive use of "air fresheners, harsh cleaning chemicals, and other toxic products in all of these environments. I'm especially interested in proving to administrators that nontoxic products CAN be effective disinfectants.

Thank you.

Thank you so much for reporting this. Not only should these types of rooms be a goal for chemical sensitivity groups as Larry writes above, but should be a gold standard for ALL hospital rooms. Anyone who is in a hospital - and therefore being challenged by a health condition - should be able to stay in a room that does not bombard their system with toxic fumes from cleaning chemicals, fragrances, and building materials. It's a no-brainer. Time for the whole world to catch up! Thank you Germany for being a leader in this area.

The creation of less toxic rooms in hospitals should be a goal for chemical sensitivity support groups throughout the world. Now we can use the Agaplesion Diakonie Hospital in Hamburg as a guide.
Congratulations to Germany for this accomplishment.
